The 2025–26 Central European Hockey League (CEHL) season has built toward a compelling championship matchup, as EHC Die Bären Neuwied and UltimAir Hijs Hokij emerge as the two finalists. This final represents not only the league’s top performers but also two teams that took very different paths to reach the same stage.
Regular Season Excellence
Both finalists established themselves early as elite contenders. EHC Die Bären Neuwied finished the regular season at the top of the standings with 52 points, tied with Snackpoint Eaters Limburg, but ahead on overall performance metrics. Meanwhile, UltimAir Hijs Hokij secured third place with 40 points, demonstrating consistent competitiveness throughout the campaign.
Neuwied’s dominance was particularly evident in their goal differential, scoring over 100 goals while conceding just 40, one of the best defensive records in the league. Limburg also impressed offensively, but Neuwied’s balance made them the benchmark team heading into the playoffs.
Neuwied’s Commanding Run
In the postseason, EHC Die Bären Neuwied continued to assert their authority. They swept through the quarterfinals with a perfect record and a staggering 20–2 goal difference. In the semifinals, they remained unbeaten in regulation, finishing with 3 wins overall.
Their ability to control games defensively while capitalizing on scoring chances has made them the most complete team in the league.
Hijs Hokij’s Resilience
UltimAir Hijs Hokij, on the other hand, took a more hard-fought route. They required three games to advance from the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, they played five games, winning three and scoring 18 goals along the way.
Unlike Neuwied’s dominance, Hijs Hokij’s run has been defined by resilience and the ability to win tight, high-pressure games, traits that often prove crucial in a championship series.
A Familiar Rivalry
This matchup also carries historical weight. In the previous CEHL season, Neuwied defeated Limburg in the finals to claim the championship, reinforcing their status as the league’s gold standard.
Now, they return to the finals aiming to defend their title, this time against a surging Hijs Hokij squad seeking their trophy.
What to Expect in the Finals
The CEHL finals promise an entertaining contrast in styles:
Defense vs Offense: Neuwied’s disciplined structure against Hijs Hokij’s attacking pressure
Efficiency vs Endurance: A well-rested, dominant team versus a battle-hardened challenger
Experience vs Momentum: The reigning powerhouse against a team peaking at the right time
If Neuwied controls the pace and limits scoring chances, they are clear favorites. However, if Hijs Hokij can turn the series into a fast, high-scoring contest, an upset is well within reach.
