LOWELL, Mass. — With two highlight-reel shootout goals, Alina Müller lifted the Boston Fleet past the New York Sirens in an eight-round shootout.

The first-place Fleet have battled through several tight contests of late, with their past two games both decided in shootouts. The eight-round victory is tied for the longest shootout in PWHL history.

In addition to her two shootout goals, Müller recorded an assist on Abby Newhook’s power-play goal that opened the scoring. The helper extended Müller’s point streak to four games as she closed out the first half of the season on a strong note.

After Newhook’s first-period tally, the Sirens responded with two goals in the second period to take the lead. With a chance to tie the game at 2, Fleet forward Ella Huber was awarded a penalty shot but was unable to get a shot on net after her deke.

Boston regrouped in the third period, getting on the board less than a minute in on a goal by Liz Schepers. The momentum continued five minutes later when Jamie Lee Rattray scored on the power play to give the Fleet a 3-2 edge.

The Sirens answered once more with just over five minutes remaining in regulation, as forward Kristýna Kaltounková scored her second goal of the night to tie the game at 3-3 and force overtime.

Müller’s first shootout attempt came in the seventh round, when she froze goaltender Kayle Osborne before finishing with a backhand into the net. The Sirens extended the shootout to an eighth round, but Müller sealed the win with a low shot past Osborne.

Fleet coach Kris Sparre praised his team’s effort and competitive mindset.

“They’re having fun in the locker room and fun on the ice,” Sparre said. “They’re competing against each other hard in practice so they can compete for each other in the game.”

Sparre also highlighted the group’s ability to adapt both mentally and physically amid change.

“I’m really proud of the group,” he said. “We come in with a new coaching staff, new systems, new ideas, and we put them in place, and they find a way to take ownership of it. It’s a testament to the leadership we have in our group.”

The Fleet remain in first place with 30 points and are a perfect 6-0 when playing at their home arenas this season.

As the team heads into the Olympic break, Boston has positioned itself well for the second half. With a balanced roster, strong play at both ends of the ice and effective special teams, the Fleet’s shootout win over the Sirens sent a clear message that they are a legitimate contender for the Walter Cup.
