The NHL offseason is already bringing change behind the bench, as the Seattle Kraken will be moving forward without assistant coach Jessica Campbell, whose contract has expired.

Campbell, who spent four seasons with the Kraken organization, will not return next year after indicating she intends to pursue other opportunities around the league. Her departure marks the end of a notable tenure in Seattle, where she earned widespread respect for her player development work and communication skills.

In a statement, Kraken Executive Vice President and General Manager Jason Botterill acknowledged both her contributions and her decision to move on:

“As Jessica’s current contract expires, she has expressed her desire to explore other coaching roles across the League and we support her in this process,” said Botterill. “Jessica has been an important member of our coaching staff for the past four years, demonstrating deep knowledge, and a unique ability to connect with and develop players. We respect her decision and believe strongly in her as a coach in this league.”

Campbell has been viewed as one of the rising coaching figures in professional hockey, playing a key role in shaping younger talent and contributing to the Kraken’s evolving identity since the franchise’s early years. Her ability to build relationships with players and translate systems into on-ice results made her a valued presence on the bench.

Her exit comes at a time when coaching movement across the NHL is expected to be active, and Campbell’s experience and reputation could make her a candidate for a range of roles, potentially including a position in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL).

For Seattle, the focus now shifts to reshaping its coaching staff ahead of next season, while for Campbell, the next step could represent another milestone in a rapidly ascending career.
