Bulldogs Win CEHL Cup in Overtime

GELEEN, Netherlands — Fourteen days into the new year, the Liege Bulldogs came out strong, defeating the Snackpoint Eaters Limburg 4-3 in overtime to win the CEHL Cup. The game was sensational, with key performances from Bryan Kolodziejczyk and Luke Stegmann leading Liege to the title.
Tuukka Rajamaki gave Limburg an early lead, scoring 51 seconds into the first period on an assist from Vili Vesalainen to make it 1-0. The physical tone escalated midway through the period when Limburg’s Tijn Jacobs and Liege’s Cedric Delmarche were both penalized at the 11:24 mark. Frank Neven was later assessed a minor penalty at 17:38, and the opening period ended with both teams energized heading into the second.
Limburg extended its lead early in the second period as Rajamaki and Wouter Sars each scored within the first 10 minutes to make it 3-0. Following a Liege timeout, Anthony Gagnon responded quickly, scoring just minutes later to put the Bulldogs on the board.
Neven added another goal for Liege, further intensifying the matchup. Five penalties were issued between the two teams for roughing and interference before Kolodziejczyk tied the game at 3-3 with nine seconds remaining in regulation.
Five minutes into overtime, Gagnon scored the game-winning goal to secure the CEHL Cup for Liege for the first time in years. Fans from across Europe that packed the arena, erupting in celebration for the Belgian club. Members of the supporter group “Old Bastards” were among those cheering loudly for their favorite players, highlighting the strength of the Bulldogs’ fanbase.
The Liege Bulldogs will continue their season with their focus on repeating as Belgian Cup champions. Kolodziejczyk, who ranks high in points and assists, is expected to play a major role in the team’s pursuit of another title. Gagnon, the league’s leading goal scorer, and Denoble, another key contributor, are players to watch as the season moves into February.
